The talented production team at Ghost Robot brought us on board to create some storyboards and custom typography to incorporate in a pitch of a show package for A&E's new hit show "Breakout Kings". We were involved in storyboarding title sequences and final lockup logos for this pitch.
The first order of business was to decide on a suitable typeface for the sequences. This was an involving process of deep type exploration through hundreds of fonts. The final selections were then used as reference to build custom prototypes. The show is all about cons helping lawmen catch cons, so the prototype mimics the feeling of being held behind bars with thick protruding lines continuing along the ascenders and crossbar of the typeface. There is a limited sense of freedom from the stencil effect and the way the lines break off the main lockup in the print and animated versions of the type lockup.
Working closely with director Adam Levite we designed 5 custom typographic lockups. We then used video screenshots from the pilot episode to create the title sequences showing actor credits. These screens and type treatments were also used to create a viral ad campaign to promote the show.
